Workshop Agenda
The six-day workshop was packed with learning opportunities, practical sessions, and real-world applications of IoT technologies. Here’s a breakdown of what each day looked like:
Day 1: Programming with TME Education Boards
Participants began by exploring TME Education’s development boards, learning the basics of programming and hardware interactions that form the foundation of IoT systems.Day 2: Introduction to Node-Red
The focus shifted to Node-Red, an open-source tool that simplifies the creation of IoT applications. Participants used visual programming to design data flow for their connected devices.Day 3: Configuration and Deployment of LoRa, WiFi, and GSM Nodes
Key to IoT is connectivity. Attendees got hands-on experience configuring and deploying LoRa, WiFi, and GSM nodes, essential for enabling communication between IoT devices.Day 4: Presentation of IoT Devices and Sensors
The fourth day introduced a variety of IoT devices and sensors, crucial for data collection. Participants examined different sensors used in environmental monitoring, smart cities, and more.Day 5: Configuration and Deployment of LoRaWAN Gateways
LoRaWAN gateways allow long-range communication in IoT networks. Participants learned to set up and deploy these gateways, vital for connecting a wide array of IoT devices across distances.Day 6: Field Deployment of IoT Systems
The workshop culminated in the field deployment of the IoT systems developed throughout the week, providing participants with real-world experience in deploying, managing, and troubleshooting IoT networks.
Key Highlights
One of the major strengths of this workshop was the combination of theory and practice. Participants were introduced to real-life use cases and had the opportunity to develop innovative projects:
Aquaponics System
A fascinating IoT project focused on sustainable farming, where participants explored how IoT can be used to monitor and control an aquaponics system. This project showcased IoT’s potential in agriculture.Weather Station
A participant-led project to build an IoT-enabled weather station, demonstrating how sensors can be deployed to monitor and report real-time weather data.Smart City Solutions
Another team developed a solution that harnesses IoT for smart city infrastructure, aiming to improve urban management through connected devices that optimize energy, traffic, and resource allocation.
